What is the dark web?

The image of the glacier which we normally see, which has 4% of the iceberg which is above sea level but 96% of the remaining part is under the sea level that is the best definition of deep web and dark web. So normally you can't access or surf on the dark web, you need a special browser for surfing on the dark web which is called a Tor browser.

But honestly, I wouldn't recommend you to go deep surfing the dark web, because your machine may be compromised if you are not much aware of how stuff works there, or by mistake, if you click on some link which may download some file and out of curiosity if you try to open that file, then boom. Your machine may be compromised. This is the one way. I am not saying this is the only way, and hackers are way too smarter because they have more in-depth knowledge of how the computer works, the operating system works, how data is stored, encryption, decryption, etc. there may be hundreds and thousands of ways to hack.

thanks to https://www.greatlakescomputer.com/ for this image, which will give you the clear idea about the dark web and deep web.

There are many illegal and legal activities happening on the dark web starting from the selling of credit card details for $$, stolen and hacked credentials of lifetime Netflix subscription for $$, credentials of internet banking of XYZ bank at $$, yes it also includes selling of drugs, weapons, etc. You can literally hire hackers for getting your stuff done(imagine anything on the internet). Obviously, you have to pay a good amount of $$ to them as they are experts. Things that you can't even imagine happens here on the dark web.

Normally the sites from dark web block crawlers and indexing, the reason we won't find them on the clear web(google).

People normally dealing with the payment transactions on the dark web mostly do their transactions using Bitcoin(untraceable transactions). Bitcoin is a virtual cryptocurrency that runs on blockchain technology. Blockchain is something a very big topic in itself.

The default search engine for your TOR browser will be www.duckduckgo.com and not www.google.com, because duckduckgo.com don't trace your location but google does.

The TOR browser redirects you from hop to hop. Tor is free and open-source software for enabling anonymous communication

As you can see when I request duckduckgo.com, it doesn't directly go to duckduckgo.com, but take hops in between, Browser -> France -> Netherlands -> US ->duckduckgo.com.

If you want to be more sure about your location, you can type www.google.com it will show your location in the extreme bottom left corner of your browser window(google welcome page).

The sites on the dark web are like onion links, those are not like www.google.com.

My only intention for writing this article is to get an understanding of the existence of the dark web which is present on the internet. So the internet which we see is only 4% of the actual internet, rest is on the dark web and deep web.
